Auburn delivers red’s warmth without red’s neon. It reads brunette indoors and catches fire in sunlight — the statement shade for people who have meetings.

Who auburn flatters

Our auburn shade is a level 4 with warm-neutral undertones and full gray coverage — no bleach required on most bases. Warm and golden skin glows beside it; neutral skin gets away with it because the brown base keeps it from going neon. If copper feels too orange and chestnut feels too safe, auburn is exactly the middle you have been looking for — compare copper and chestnut on your own photo to feel the difference.

What to ask your stylist

Ask for a level 4 reddish-brown with velvet depth — richer at the root, warmer through the ends — rather than flat all-over red. On dark virgin bases a single-step gloss often suffices; previously colored ends may need a clarifying step so the red grips evenly.

Upkeep and commitment

Honest version: medium upkeep, and kind for a red. Deep red-brown holds 5–6 weeks, with glosses between appointments and color-safe shampoo stretching it further. Red molecules still escape faster than brown ones, so cold-water rinses are non-negotiable — but this is nothing like copper’s recharge cycle.

Try it before you commit

Reds photograph differently in every light. Try auburn on your photo, drag the intensity from 50% to 100% to find your saturation, and rank it against your undertone before booking. If you want more fire, copper is one step up the voltage scale.
